About Us

We are a closed public benefit organisation run by our individual members. We all met in a unique place called Hillcrest National STEM Boys Secondary School, fomerly known as Hillcrest National Technical High School in Livingstone, Zambia from 2000 to 2002. The bonds we formed there stayed with us culminating in the formation of Hillcrest Ubuntu.

Our goal is to undertake outreach programmes to Hillcrest School aimed at providing career counselling, guidance, advice and mentorship to students

  • To provide financial support to vulnerable students with regard to tuition and boarding fees
  • To support the school by fundraising for activities including:

o          donating resources such as library books,
o          facilitating renovations
o          administrative support

  • Ease the burden of funeral costs for our members and their loved ones.
  • Support our members to engage in the roles expected of them by our Zambian traditions and society with regards to familial responsibility during the difficult times of loss.
  • Foster dignity in death not only for ourselves but for our loved ones
  • Support each other during difficult times because we believe each individual member of our cohort is because we all are.

Ubuntu is a Bantu word originating from the Zulu phrase, ‘Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu’ which translates to ‘a person is a person through other people’. The Bantu tribes of Africa where our members come from share this common philosophy on humanity. This is encompassed in our vision for Hillcrest Ubuntu: ‘I am, because we are’.

Hillcrest Ubuntu aims to:

  • Ease the burden of funeral costs for our members and their loved ones.
  • Protect our members and their loved ones against some of the uncertainty that funerals engender.
